Define JDM [ yahoo answers is stupid and makes me make my question at least 20 charcters long]?

i am a little bit confused as to exactly what JDM (japanese domestic market/model) represents. my current understanding of it is that any car built to japanese specs is jdm. eg. a nissan silvia is JDM, but a nissan 240sx (almost the same car) is not. is this correct?Define JDM [ yahoo answers is stupid and makes me make my question at least 20 charcters long]?
People have explained about JDM and that it is a car built for the Japan.

You mentioned the sx now i had an s13 version which stock had a ca18det engine and i wonder what else differed from the US versions,i also had a QX maxima a32 which is sold to you as an infiniti i30 and that differs if nothing else but style wise from the US version and sold as a cefiro in Asia.

My friend has MK4 Supra's JDM spec and when we order parts we have to say imports and many features differ from the UK spec to the Import spec down to brake disc etc.and i know on the MK4 Supra even engine parts differ.Define JDM [ yahoo answers is stupid and makes me make my question at least 20 charcters long]?
yeah i think you've answered your own Question. as you state JDM is jap domestic market. Hence any japanese auto company that makes a model for sale in Japan is JDM. Here in canada Honda has a mfg plant that makes cars solely for sale in canada or CDM. Just as many other companies have specific models for specific markets. to save money many models share parts. So in some cases a JDM can be quite similar to a US model from the same co. Essentially the same car, just a few tweaks for the specific market and often a model name change( the honda pilot sold in Saudi was not called the Pilot since 911) i think it was called the MRV ?Define JDM [ yahoo answers is stupid and makes me make my question at least 20 charcters long]?
All explained :)
"is this correct?"

Kind of.....

Any vehicle made to conform to Japanese vehicle regulations and/or their market preferences will be called JDM. If Honda ,Toyota, Nissan, or any Japanese brand sells one car designed JDM, you'll probably see differences in in external lighting, trim, features, suspension characteristics, etc... from a similar car sold in the American market or any other market outside Japan.
