Can I swap a JDM EJ20G engine into a '98 Subaru Legacy Outback Wagon?

If so, what parts besides the transmission and ECU are required? Do I have to replace the rear diff? Any other major changes? Thanks! Can I swap a JDM EJ20G engine into a '98 Subaru Legacy Outback Wagon?
Yes. Engine, ECU and harness is all you really need to make it work. And also make sure you live in an area where there is no OBD scanning for emissions because the JDM ECU's before 02 or so will not pass. Any transmission can be used pretty much but if you want the one that was with the engine, then you will want the rear end too to keep gearing proper. I don't know why you would want to go through all the trouble of using an import engine that will not even be road legal in most states when there are plenty of engines you can use right at home for pretty cheap. Can I swap a JDM EJ20G engine into a '98 Subaru Legacy Outback Wagon?
EJ20G is a turbo charge engine, so call the 4-cam version of the Subaru Legacy used. If ur outback is BG6 or BD6 for your 1998, that will fit. However, you need new engine mount, and the bolts attached to the tranny. I think the EJ20G had 8 bolts, while the US verion may not be the same (6 or 8 depended on your mnufacturer day).

Wiring for the turbo and other wires will be slightly different; but you should able to manage to do so.

Good luck on the swap.
