What is Honda JDM? What is the difference between a conventionally tuned Honda and JDM?

I'm imagining its some type of specification standard....? But who or what sets the standard/specifications? And what difference does it make in the performance or appearance of the car? How does it compare to conventional Honda tuning??


Thanks|||^ What Kevin said. Over in Japan they are far more into road racing and SCCA type of racing. Where over here in N. America, people tend to care more about drag racing and quarter mile times. The JDM parts reflect this difference. Stuff like aftermarket camshafts and transmission gears are made for better performance, for road racing. Where here, most N. American companies make products that simply shift the powerband into the high RPMs, to benefit drag racers. Suspension parts are the same way. Over in Japan, the parts are created to perform at high speed turns. Over here, half of the suspension parts are simply used to just lower cars.





Then there is the JDM look and the JDM style; both being 2 different things. The JDM look is the amber or smoked amber turn signal lenses, the earth tone pain jobs (browns, blacks, grays, etc), wheels that were originally only sold in Japan, and parts from the Japanese counterpart to a car (ie. putting parts from an JDM hatchback on a USDM/CDM hatchback). Basically people either look at stock cars from Japan and try to copy them, and/or they try to only buy parts that were sold in Japan but not sold in N. America. Then there is the JDM style. The JDM style is basically buying cheap parts that are knockoff copies of the real rare JDM parts, to get the look.|||JDM = Japanese domestic market

JDM Honda's are Honda's with JDM parts.


For example, the JDM engines have more power and the American market because of our strict emissions.





So JDM Honda's are faster than American Honda's.|||Its Japanese Domestic Market like everyone has stated but they pretty much do things better there...for example there 90-91 civic hatchback/crx is SIR which comes with a B16 motor Rated at 170hp and our version is just the SI and it come with a D16 motor rated at 106hp there are also body parts that are different as well...there cars are right side drive motors from japan are rated with more HP the usdm made cars
