Is a jdm motor for my 95 lexus ls400 a good decision?
I love my car and the motor locked up. I can get a jdm motor for about 500 600 dollars. what would be positive and negatives about these types of motors?|||The positives is that JDM motors are generally a bit more powerful than US market ones. I believe the original 1UZ (pre-vvti) was rated at 256 HP vs 250 HP here in the US. The negative is that JDM motors technically don't meet our emissions standards and therefore may or may not be legal to install in your vehicle depending on what your state's laws are. I live in Massachusetts where cars older than 1996 no longer have restrictions on emissions testing (so long as they don't produce visible smoke). It really depends on your state's bylaws. I would advise looking them up before you purchase the engine. In case you do run into problems, remember its quite easy to pick up a US market 1UZ for about the same price range.
