Is it illegal to do a Jdm enigne swap?

I was thinking about putting a sr20det in a s13 240sx. Recently i heard it is illegal to do Jdm engine swaps. Is this true and if it is what is the penalty and how do i make it legal. I live in Florida.|||As long as the factory emission controls are used, I don't think it is.


In some states you could even change the engine controls.


So I think it is more how it is done, and not the engine source it's self.|||not sure how it works in the usa but here in the uk they say it is illegal when in actual fact it isnt, you just need an engineers report to say it has been done professionally and isnt about to fall out. but you are limited to insurers as many will not insure a car with that kind of modification
